Self Improvement

Whether you are resolving to lose weight, quit smoking, or learn a new skill, improving yourself is an investment that stays fresh. We always have room to grow as individuals and a New Year’s resolution is a perfect opportunity to take your self-improvement or personal development to the next level. “Most of us have a natural bent toward self-improvement,” John Duffy, Ph.D, clinical psychologist said on PsychCentral.com.

The key to making your self-improvement New Year’s resolution stick is to pick something that is desirable and uplifting to you. Ask yourself, “why do I want to make this New Year’s Resolution?” The more you understand why you are doing it, the more likely you will be to follow through. Following through will also make you feel better about yourself. For example, looking great in your bathing suit might be more important to you than losing 5 pounds.

Goal Setting

Another reason it is a good idea why we make New Year’s resolutions is because they allows us to reach higher and set new goals. By simply looking into the future of our life and casting the spear of intention forward, we can get closer to achieving the accomplishments we desire in life.

Whether you want to run a marathon in 2015 or increase business by 50 or even 100 percent, setting goals as a New Year’s resolution has been shown to get you closer to reaching them. One study found that 46 percent of people who made a New Year’s resolution were successful versus six percent who wanted to achieve something in the New Year but didn’t actually make the resolution. From those statistics alone, we can understand why we make New Year’s resolutions. They bring us 40 percent closer to achieving our goals.

It’s a good idea to think about what New Year’s resolutions you want to make. Every year we have a chance to start fresh and make positive changes in our life. Whether you want to experience more self-improvement, personal development or achieve new goals in 2015, your time is now to confidently state your New Year’s resolutions.
