Leonids Meteor Shower

Come to Morgan Preserve on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. and join our Sky Ranger Guy Gillespie to view the annual Leonids Meteor Shower. We will get to see the buildup to the peak of this shower, producing a maximum of perhaps 10-15 meteors per hour. The peak of the shower should be around 11pm-1am.  Park at the SR 44 lot, on the east side of the road, 1/2 mile south of SR 303, Shalersville Township.

PORTAGE Trail Walk

Come walk with the Portage Trail Walkers group on Nov. 21 to journey from the Lake Rockwell trailhead into Kent on the PORTAGE Hike & Bike Trail.  Meet at 9:00am in the Portage Park District Lake Rockwell Trailhead parking lot, located next to 1617 Lake Rockwell Rd. in Franklin Township.

PORTAGE Trail Walk

Come walk with the Portage Trail Walkers group on Dec. 26. They will be starting at the Cleveland Rd. trailhead on the PORTAGE Hike & Bike Trail at 9 a.m.  Park in the Portage Park District trailhead parking lot across from 480 Cleveland Rd. in Ravenna. Walk: Flat trail, asphalt paved, 5 Miles

Rules for Hiking in Winter

1. Dress warm. Several layers that can be opened for ventilation are best.
2. Mittens are better than gloves for the hands.
3. Stocking caps are better than baseball hats.
4. Wool socks and waterproof boots are great, especially when the trail is wet.
