Lori Hogan

Local caregivers are invited to attend a free event designed to provide encouragement and strength for the often-difficult job of caring for older adults, as well as educate individuals on the caregiving positions available to them locally.

Featured speaker is Lori Hogan, author of Strength for the Moment and co-founder of Home Instead Senior Care®. She will be at Lakeland Community College’s Mooreland Mansion on Wednesday, April 1, from 5 – 8 p.m. for a prayer time and to share her story and encourage others to tell theirs.

More than 65 million Americans are caregivers for elderly parents and relatives – almost one third of the adult population. Hogan’s hardcover book, published by Image Books, features 52 hope-filled (and sometimes humorous) true stories, prayers and practical advice to encourage and celebrate men and women who give so much to care for their aging loved ones.

Hogan’s caregiving experience started early, growing up with a brother who had special needs and later caring for grandparents and raising four children. In 1994, she and her husband Paul founded Home Instead Senior Care, providing support to caregivers around the world.

“The simple act of caring for someone you love has amazing power – healing broken relationships, restoring self-confidence and clarifying life priorities,” Hogan said. “But over time family caregivers pay a high emotional, physical, social and financial price for caring and giving. I have written Strength for the Moment to honor caregivers and to affirm and encourage them in their labor of love,” she added.

“We’re pleased to host this amazing woman, whose personal and professional life has brought so much to the caregiving world,” said Therese Glorioso, owner of the local Home Instead Senior Care office. “Caregiving touches so many lives, so even if you are not a caregiver today, chances are you will be. You won’t want to miss this night of empathy, affirmation and spiritual comfort.”

Several individuals will be on hand to provide testimonies to being the adult child of a senior needing care, the senior who needs care, as well as a professional caregiver. Representatives with Home Instead Senior Care will be on hand to answer questions about caregiving and employment with Home Instead Senior Care, which serves seniors in Portage, Lake and Geauga counties.

To RSVP for the event, which includes dinner and a copy of Hogan’s book at the reduced rate of $10, contact Home Instead Senior Care at 330-995-1522.
