The Hiram Police Department has a new member; her name is Charm. Charm was sworn into the police force by Chief Ed Samec on July 25. If you are looking for an explanation, Charm is a certified mounted unit. Her and her owner, Hiram Police Department Officer Scott Dean, received all the necessary training set forth by the State of Ohio to be a certified mounted patrol unit.
Charm lives with Officer Scott Dean and his family. This is the first mounted patrol unit for Hiram PD.

Charm and Officer Scott Dean will be on duty during Hiram Police Department community events, parades, July 4th Hiram community fireworks events, and other events in Hiram Village which draws large crowds. There is a huge advantage to having a mounted patrol unit in that it puts the officer at a higher level set above large crowd and offers a new prospective with the advantage of elevation.
Charm is an important addition to the Hiram PD’s already active community policing approach. The Hiram PD Mounted Patrol Unit is sponsored by Big Dee’s Tack in Streetsboro.
Watch for Charm and Officer Scott Dean to be at upcoming Hiram PD community as we welcome Charm to Team Hiram.
