According to a London Based media agency, a survey “designed to identify when women feel most vulnerable about their appearance throughout the week” was created. Forty six percent of women ages 18 and up in the U.S. said Monday was the top “ugly day.”
The article says that since this is when women feel most vulnerable, it’s a good time to play off their insecurities and “determine the best timing for beauty product messages and promotions.”
I’m guessing you’re feeling a little of that red stuff in your veins start to boil over that comment! And with good reason.
I’m not going to go into the ills of preying on other’s vulnerabilities here. What I am going to do, though, is to give you some food for thought if you happen to be one of those 46% who’s feeling you’re part of the Ugly Monday Club.
Your thoughts are your property.
You own them.
You command them.
You decide to either save or delete them.
Never give up ownership of your thoughts to the tyranny of THEY. THEY are elusive non-entities we give too much authority to. THEY say a lot of things – much of which couldn’t be further from the truth – that is often based on a carefully contrived scheme to make you behave in a particular way so THEY will benefit. Who told you that you were ugly anyway? Your feelings? A real person? THEY? At this point, it doesn’t matter. Take command. Choose to be in charge and counter those thoughts.
Your thoughts influence your perception of reality.
Cease, desist, replace. And that’s an order! Halt the ugly thinking activity and do not take it up again later. Instead, replace those thoughts with who you want to become this week. If you spend your time thinking about how ugly you are, your world will become ugly. It doesn’t matter if the world really is ugly or not. To YOU it is, and that’s all you see. But you have the ability to change the way you perceive your world by changing your thoughts.
Think about who you want to become. Outward appearance has no power to bring inward fulfillment in life. Inward character is the only thing that can satisfy such a longing. Wasting time thinking ugly thoughts has zero potential for any positive returns. Try this instead. Set a goal for the week. Organize your workspace or closet. Orderliness always improves one’s outlook on life. Visit an elderly neighbor – just because. You’ll make their day – and you’ll feel incredible afterward because kindness is a beautiful trait. Get your eyes off the outside appearance and look to the inside. If there is something that you should change about your outward appearance in order to enhance the quality of your relationships, which is what everything boils down to, then make a choice to do so, set one goal each Monday, and go for it. Soon your world will be looking much brighter!
Your thoughts determine who you will become.
“As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” ~ Proverbs 23:7
“I know for sure that what we dwell on is who we become.” ~ Oprah Winfrey
“You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.” ~ James Allen
You have a brand new week to launch. How do want to feel about yourself at the end of it? Set a goal and go after it with determination. There’s nothing that can make you feel better about yourself or chase away those Monday uglies than when you can say, “I did it!” after you accomplished what you set out to do. Command your thoughts to view Mondays as a new adventure, a new challenge, a new opportunity to improve yourself. Why waste time dwelling on ugliness. I cannot think of one benefit of doing so. Achieve inward beauty through personal character development, and you will radiant beauty on the outside.
