The Salute to Senior Service® Contest recognizes everyday seniors for the impact they make in their communities. This annual Contest search for active senior volunteers is conducted by Home Instead Inc., franchisor of the Home Instead Senior Care® network.
Inspiring Healthy Aging
Our network’s goal is to help seniors to stay healthy and active as they age, which many do through volunteering and the support of home care services. We also want to encourage a positive outlook on aging, and what better way to do so than by inviting everyone in the country to personally recognize seniors who set an inspiring example for people of all ages?
Supporting Senior Service
Senior volunteers nominated for the Salute to Senior Service Contest not only receive public recognition and appreciation of their dedicated community service, but they are also eligible for a chance to win up to $5,500 for their favorite non-profit volunteer organization.
How the Contest Works
Nominations
To nominate a senior you know, fill out the online entry form between January 15 and March 1, 2014.
Nominations will be accepted January 15 through March 1, 2014.
Your nominee will join the ranks of other highly passionate and dedicated senior volunteers whose stories appear on the View Entries tab.
Voting
Between January 15 and March 1, 2014, the public can vote up to once per day for a senior volunteer nominee.
Adding Comments
Friends, family and others who view your entry can add a comment to provide additional details, praise and encouragement. These comments can help to expand the story, thereby increasing its appeal to the public (whose votes determine the Local Winners) and judges (who determine the National Winners).
How Winners Are Determined
The nominee in each state who attains the most votes becomes a Local Winner. A panel of judges then evaluates the Local Winners to determine one National Grand Prize Winner for the U.S. and Canada each.
