When Heartbreak Turns to Hope, You Can Be There
Your help is needed now more than ever. A hot meal delivered to victims after a disaster, blood when it is needed most, shelter when there is nowhere else to turn, an emergency message delivered to a member of the Armed Forces from their family – these are just some of the ways that your generous gift can be put to work through the American Red Cross. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the American Red Cross is empowering people to perform extraordinary acts in the face of emergencies down the street, across the country and around the world.
This year, the American Red Cross and Robinson Memorial Hospital present the Real Heroes Awards to honor those residents of Portage, Lake, and Geauga Counties who have acted courageously and compassionately to save someone’s life or to improve the lives of many. In addition, the Red Cross will present the Robinson Memorial Hospital Paragon Award to Ray Dalton (see story below).
Because the actions of these individuals embody the ideals, principles, and purpose of the American Red Cross, they will be recognized during a special reception on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at The Bertram Inn in Aurora.
Meet the 2014 Robinson Memorial Hospital Portage Paragon Award Recipients
2012 marked the inaugural year of our new Robinson Memorial Hospital Portage Paragon Award. The Red Cross will present the award each year to a local citizen who best exemplifies leadership in the community, demonstrates compassion for its people, and who actively supports the lifesaving missions of both the American Red Cross and Robinson Memorial Hospital. Neil Mann, Jr. received the first award in 2012 and last year we were pleased to present the award to Ron and Joan Burbick.
The recipient of the 2014 Robinson Memorial Hospital Portage Paragon Award is A. Ray Dalton of PartsSource. After completing his military service, Ray went on to earn his degree. He then went on to become a very successful businessman.
Ray recently published his autobiography, Proceed with Confidence, in which he discusses his life experiences and offers his insights on personal and business growth. His upbringing motivated his involvement in many civic organizations. He sits on several not-for-profit and community boards and volunteers his time to encourage students and individuals to live their dreams.
He was a board member for the American Red Cross Blood Services Division for many years, as well as sat on the local chapter board. His company supported one complete program of the Red Cross Nurse Assistant Training. This program got nearly 30 people accredited as nurse assistants. Even with his challenging schedule he prioritizes his faith, family, and civic duties to include humanitarian mission projects. Married for over 30 years to his wife Jan, Ray has 5 children and 7 grandchildren. For more information about Ray Dalton, please visit our website at www.redcross.org/oh/summit-portage.
