This Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17, cats are only $10 at the Portage APL! Don’t miss out! Some of these cats have been waiting over six months or even a year. By lowering the price, this gives many of you the opportunity to adopt one. Of course, adopting a cat is a long term commitment and can be costly. The APL hopes they can help with these costs by lowering the initial price so you can afford to purchase some needed care supplies. Please stop by May 16-17 and get a wonderful feline companion for $10. Applicants will need to be approved. All cats are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccines, and free of fleas and worms.
If you just aren’t sure about adopting a cat, I offer you 10 reasons for thinking twice!
1. A Busy Person’s Best Friend
Cats are independent. They do not sit at the door and wait for you to come home so they can go out. This makes them the ideal pet for workaholics or those who live especially full social lives. They do require attention of course, but far less than dogs.
2. Snuggle Buddies
Cats love a good cuddle. They fit on your lap, purr, keep you warm in winter, give friendly leg hugs, and generally don’t slobber all over you!
3. No Messy Baths
They come complete with their own bathing equipment and a built in sensor that tells them when they need to use it!
4. They’re Avid Hunters
If you want natural rodent control, adopt a cat!
5. Live Entertainment
Attack the Rug, Smack the Snail, Who Can Leap the Highest, Tight Rope Walking, Look Ma – I Can Hang on Your Screen and other cat games you have never heard of abound on a daily basis!
6. You’re Saving a Life
3 to 4 million cats and dogs are eventually euthanized each year. By adopting a cat, you will turn a sad ending into a happy one. Everyone likes a happy ending to the story!
7. Improve Your Health
Having a pet has been found to lower blood pressure, lower the risk of heart disease, improve emotional well being, return joy to a person’s life, and provide a number of other health-saving benefits. In fact, petting a cat has been shown to release endorphins in the brain, contributing to that ‘feel good’ state of being!
8. 4 – Legged Bug Catchers
Cats like bugs! They will not only catch them, but they will provide entertainment while doing so. Bat the Bug is another game cats play.
9. No Walking Required
Let them out – they come back on their own. And they might even have a present for you! OR they can stay indoors and never have to go out!
10. Your Guests Will Remain Standing
I love dogs. I have had many. I have also been greeted by many who seem to think they literally need to be ‘in your face’ to say hello! Unless it is a Great Dane, I have not minded. A cat, however, has never greeted me in such a manner. I cannot remember a time when I walked into someone’s house and had a cat charge across the floor and land with its paws on my shoulders. Nope…doesn’t happen.
And if none of these reasons do it for you, watch this!
The Portage APL has lots of sweet kitties for you to check out this weekend. Make a trip. See how many will be purring when they meet you. One will most likely ‘choose’ you and you will know exactly what to do from there….
