What are you doing this Saturday, July 13, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.? Nothing? Well – not anymore! Join the Portage Park District for their annual fundraising event:
The Headwaters Adventure Race!
Run, Pedal, and Paddle for Trails and Watershed Conservation
Beautiful Northern Portage County is the venue for this mini triathlon-like endeavor which is sure to be a challenge but provide a boatload of fun as well. The race begins at Buchert Park in Mantua Village (4808 E. High Street, 1/4 mile east of SR 44). You will run a two mile course on Headwaters Trail past a state nature preserve, bike your way over a 10 mile scenic rural landscape, and finish by paddling a canoe down a 5 mile length of the picturesque Upper Cuyahoga State Scenic River to land once again back at Buchert Park.
You may choose to go it alone, find a buddy and share the fun by doing everything together, or have one of you run and one of you bike, then joining together in the canoe to finish. If you need to rent a boat, they are limited to the first 50 canoes and 50 kayaks. Better check before you register! Canoe rental: $15.00; Kayak rental: $10.00
Click HERE for online registration and payment of $40 per person which includes a cool T-shirt and refreshments. Students (18 and under): $25.00
Plenty of awards will be doled out in a number of categories, so don’t think this for the elite only.
* Prior river canoe or kayak experience is mandatory. Bike helmets and personal flotation devices (life jackets) are required.
