You’ve probably all heard about the FREE kid’s fishing day event coming up at the West Branch Reservoir in Portage County called “Cops and Bobbers” on Saturday June 14. This event will be huge and being sponsored by the Destination Outdoors TV show, Kames Sports, Brimfield Police Department and Michael J. Kirwan Dam & Reservoir along with dozens of police officers, their K-9s, and fire departments. There has been an overwhelming excitement from the Portage community. This is one event you do not want your child to miss this year!

Kids 15 and under (accompanied by their adult) will get to enjoy activities, games, contests, demonstrations and more from 9 am to 1 pm. Cops from all over are coming out to help with the event. Around 400 participants are expected and although many adults (in name only!) have volunteered, since this is turning into such a large event, you can still sign up to help!

Some volunteers will man different stations that will include fish ID, tackle/gear/equipment, cleaning/fileting, casting and of course fishing! Bait hooks and untangle lines – now doesn’t that sound like a fantastic opportunity to be an example of what a clever and patient adult looks like?! To volunteer to help with any of these specific tasks, please email Ranger Julie at atjulie.r.stone@usace.army.mil.

You can also just volunteer for general tasks. Email copsandbobbers@brimfieldpolice.com. If you are interested.

Fishing licenses will not be required for children or adult volunteers. This is truly FREE!

Please pre-register your kids (see below). If you have rods and reels, bring them. Hooks, bobbers and bait will be supplied. If you don’t have them, the sponsors will do their best to supply each child attending.

June 14 is also Flag Day. In honor of that, military vehicles and personnel will be present for you to thank and visit with.

You’ll also get to enjoy Native American Dancers; fishing pointers given by the Berkley Fishing Team and the Kames Fishing Team; and a photo booth with more cool attractions being added as the time draws near.

A pontoon boat shuttle will run between the camp grounds and swim beach during the event. Shuttle vehicles will be available at the swim beach and marina parking to event location.

To register your child, stop by the Brimfield Police Department or email them at copsandbobbers@brimfieldpolice.com. You can also print a from and mail it in by clicking HERE. If you would like to volunteer or donate, email the Brimfield Police.
