Hiram Police Department recently participated in the National “Click it or Ticket” Seat Belt Awareness campaign. The campaign ran from May 19 to June 1. We strive to make our roadways a safer place to travel by enforcement and education. We have incorporated a unique event in that we reward motorists and passengers that are in compliance with wearing a seat belt.

On April 24, we passed out over 1,000 vouchers for free donuts from Maggie’s Donuts and free ice cream cones from Garrettsville McDonald’s in a two hour time frame. Motorists were delighted to be rewarded for wearing their seat belts. Some said that this is something that they didn’t expect from law enforcement. We feel this program has a huge impact in that, not only is it a reward to motorists and passengers of vehicles, but it also shows that we as law enforcement appreciate safe practices.

Thank you to Chief Ed Samec for sharing this!
