The Hiram Police Department has partnered with Hiram Township in an agreement for contractual police services from the Hiram Village Police Department. Hiram police officers will be patrolling Hiram Township, enforcing traffic violations, and conducting saturation patrols.
This is purely supplemental to the services that the Portage County Sheriff’s Office currently provides to Hiram Township. The Portage County Sheriff’s Office provides exceptional services, and the police services provided by Hiram Police Department to Hiram Township are simply additional law enforcement services to Hiram Township. Hiram Township residents will still contact the Portage County Sheriff’s Office to report crimes and will continue to have deputies as their primary law enforcement contact.
Having this partnership, Hiram police officers will have the ability to concentrate efforts in particular geographical areas where crime and traffic violations persist.
Hiram Village will continue to have a Hiram police officer on duty on a 24 hour basis and an additional police officer from Hiram PD will be assigned to Hiram Township on a 10 hour per week basis. Assignments for Hiram Township police services will be directed by Chief Ed Samec of the Hiram Police Department.
Hiram Township residents should contact their township trustees with concerns related to continued traffic violations and other areas of concern. Complaints of such will be assessed for Hiram Police Department’s township patrol duties.
This agreement is an achievement reached by Hiram Village Council, Hiram Mayor Lou Bertrand, and Hiram Township Trustees that signifies teamwork and partnership between the two entities and communities.
