Mashed, fried, baked, or as chips; in pies and soups; in crafts and toys….can you imagine a world without potatoes?! May it never be!
Mantua certainly has no intention of letting that happen as they have faithfully recognized the lowly potato now for 41 years at the Annual Potato Festival. And it just keeps getting better.
A recent Facebook boast says:
“Our vendor area is full to capacity!! More vendors than we’ve ever had!! Also more rides than ever and two kid’s areas. Wine from Candlelight Winery and large screen TVs in the beer tent. This year’s festival is going to be amazing!! Don’t miss it!”
Admission is FREE! Parking is $3.00
Here are a few of the highlights each day. 50/50 raffle drawings will be held each night of the festival. The winner of the 50/50 must be present to win!
Friday, Sept. 5
Opening Night
6 – 11pm
7 – 11 pm: Tyrone’s Blues Sinsation, a three piece rock/blues/southern rock/Motown original show band. (Main Stage)
8 pm: Potato Chip Eating Contest (Stage 2)
Saturday, Sept. 6
11:00 am – Midnight
8 am: Potato Stomp Race – Start time for 9 mile and 3.5 mile is 9 am at Crestwood High School. Start for the 1 mile fun run is 8:30 am. Awards begin at 11 am on Main Stage
1 – 3 pm: sack races & dress up contests
3 – 7 pm: Boom 70s & 80s Rock (Main Stage)
4 -7 pm: Balloon Creations (Stage 2)
7 pm: eating contests
6 pm: Potato Bake Off Contest Awards & Auction (Stage 2)
8 pm – Close: Sobo’s Band 70s to today (Main Stage)
10 pm: 50/50 raffle drawing
Sunday, Sept. 7
11 am – 6 pm
12:30 pm: Sunday Service with Pastor Dave Oreskovic, Crossroads Church, Shalersville (Main Stage)
2 pm: Potato Festival Parade (Begins at High School, Ends at Festival Grounds)
2 pm: Registration for Kiddie Pedal Tractor Pulls. Event begins ½ hour after parade at festival grounds
3-6 pm: Philip Fox Band Country Fried Rock N Roll (Main Stage)
4 pm: Rotary Celebrity Pie Contest & Auction (Stage 2)
6 pm: Announcement of Raffle Winners & 50/50 Raffle (announcer’s booth)
