Registration is now open for the Portage County Family-to-Family Education Program, a free, 12-week class for families and others who have a loved one with a mental illness. The class will run every Tuesday starting October 7, 6:30 pm to 9 pm, at the Mental Health & Recovery Board of Portage County, 155 E. Main St., Kent.
Co-sponsored by the MHRB and the National Alliance on Mental Illness Portage County, the free class provides education and support that helps families and others who have a loved one with mental illness to better understand the disorders, behavior, treatments and impact. A national program through NAMI, the class is taught by family members who have participated in training through NAMI Ohio.

The Mental Health & Recovery Board is a county agency that funds, plans and monitors public mental health and substance abuse treatment services for Portage County residents. Last year, the board invested in services that helped more than 4,500 children, teens and adults.The board also funds the 24-hour crisis intervention services which handle more than 38,000 contacts each year.
