The Portage Park District is offering a series of programs to introduce the world of bird watching.
“We’re calling it Birding for the Ordinary Average Guy/Gal,” says Christine Craycroft, Executive Director. “No fancy equipment needed, no Latin names, just a way to get to know and enjoy your local feathered friends.”

This series includes indoor programs held at the Portage County Senior Center lower level, located at 705 Oakwood Street in Ravenna.
This program will start at 7:00 pm on the second Monday of the month from November through April.
Bird walks to various Portage Parks will be scheduled to practice what is learned.
Join Volunteer naturalist Joe Malmisur and Dr. Sarah Mabey from Hiram college for the first indoor program on November 10. The first program will cover field guides, binoculars, backyard feeder birds, bird feeders and bird seed.
- Subsequent classes will cover the Christmas bird count, bird anatomy, field marks, bird behavior, and common bird songs.
- Programs are free and open to the public of all ages.
