The Hiram Police Department has been awarded a grant through Region 5 Law Enforcement State Homeland Security for a new MDT (Mobile Data Terminal). Hiram PD uses MDT’s in the patrol cars to run license plates and pertinent information of individuals through the State of Ohio LEADS (Law Enforcement Automated Data System) when conducting law enforcement duties.

Given the fact the Hiram PD does not have its own dispatch center, the use of MDT’s by officers is vital to operations. Officers have direct connection with the State of Ohio data base to gather information relevant to license plates, stolen vehicles, active arrest warrants, driver’s license information and other imperative information needed to successfully, effectively, and efficiently conduct law enforcement duties.

The total cost of the awarded grant is $3,347.00. The equipment will be in service very shortly.
