The Hiram Police Department is pleased to announce that we have received a $2,000.00 grant award from the Hiram Trust Grant. The grant award will be directed to the Hiram/Garrettsville Police “Shop with a Cop” program.

The Shop with a Cop program provides Hiram/Garrettsville area children, and their families, the opportunity to enjoy the holiday season. The program is designed to allow less fortunate and underprivileged children to go holiday shopping for themselves and families, with a police officer. The program brings about much heartfelt joy to a lot of area children and families.

Our goal is that every child gets the chance to enjoy the holiday season. The Shop with a Cop program is a wonderful program that the Hiram Police Department intends to hold every year. We hold this program close to our hearts and it means a lot to us. Last year, 30 children and their families participated in the program. We look forward to the Shop with a Cop program every year; seeing the looks on the children’s faces makes our holiday season.

The Shop with a Cop program brings children and Safety Officers together and builds a bond that is essential to community policing as well as provides for families that would be unable to bring about holiday joy with food and gifts. There should be no child that feels the sense of confusion and the feeling of going “without” during the holiday season due to poverty and financial strains.

The Hiram/Garrettsville Police Department Shop with a Cop program reaches out to families and brings holiday joy to even more. If you, your family or business is interested in providing resources essential to ensure that the program is a success, please contact Chief Ed Samec of the Hiram Police Department.

The “Shop with a Cop” programs survive solely upon donations, fundraisers and grant awards.
