On May 23, the Hiram Police Department kicked off the national campaign known as “Click it or Ticket”.

Officers of the Hiram Police handed out vouchers at the intersection of Garfield Road and Wakefield Road.

“Operators and Passengers in vehicles that were wearing their seat belts were given a voucher for a free ice cream cone from Garrettsville McDonalds or a free donut from Hiram Maggie’s Donuts” Chief Ed Samec said. “This is our way of rewarding motorists and passengers for doing the right thing, being safe.”

Over 1,000 vouchers were handed out and safety literature was given to those motorists and passengers who were not wearing a seat belt.

“The literature we handed out to those not wearing a seat belt was materials containing data and statistics about fatal and injury vehicle crashes. We want residents and commuters to have safe travels on our roadways, this program is wonderful in that it’s a reward for being safe and obeying the law”.
