There are so many things to love about Ohio. Our interesting weather, our unique history, and, of course, the nature that you’ll find in every corner of Ohio (for the most part). There are tons of things to do to keep you occupied for ages. Cedar Point, Rock n Roll Hall of Fame… but between the crowds and the prices, you dread those trips more than look forward to them. So, here are some easy day trip ideas that will be easy on your wallet as well.

  1. Squires Castle

Okay, so it’s not a castle. It’s just what’s left of the gatehouse that was built by Feargus B. Squire. He sold the Willoughby Hills property, which included the now famous Squires Castle, in 1922. Just a few years after that, it was bought by Cleveland Metroparks. There is a bit of a haunted history behind this Ohio landmark. But, whether you want to play Ghostbusters or just plan a relaxing day trip, Squires Castle is the place to be.

  1. Whiskey Island

Whiskey Island Marina is one of the most family friendly places in Cleveland. Right smack dab on the lake, you get the whole package. You’re also right near the Sunset Bar and Grille, an outdoor venue where you can grab a bite to eat, watch a game and even hear live music. Sunset Bar and Grille also has a playground right near the tables, so your kids can run around and play with others as well.

  1. Punderson State Park

Punderson State Park is like a treasure trove of fun activities for you and your family to enjoy. There are plenty of trails to hike, and a haunted mansion that you can explore and enjoy. There’s also a lake and two different pools for you to swim in. With everything that’s there for you to do, you’ll never run out of places to go and explore.

  1. Debonne Vineyards

Debone Vineyards in Madison is the largest winery in Ohio. So, of course they have some awesome things in store. You can go in, dine and sip wine at their restaurant. You and your friends can even go to one of their wine tasting events or schedule a tour of the winery. Your family can also go to one of their many events over the summer, too.

  1. Shopping Trip

I’m not saying that you should go nuts and spend your whole paycheck on shopping. But, there’s something fun and relaxing about going out window-shopping and Ohio has so many cool places to do it! From Coventry Street down in Cleveland to Legacy Village, there are some awesome stores for you to visit and kill time in.
