Spending a summer evening at the drive-in is one of those nostalgic summer experiences people remember for childhood. But, due to the dwindling number of drive-in theaters left – some say less than 350 remain in the US – many folks won’t get to experience one. Luckily, in our area, we’ve got the Midway Twin Drive-In Theater in Ravenna. And, during their summer and early fall season, their two screens show double features seven days a week, giving us all the opportunity to experience the magic that is the drive-in.
Tonight is the ideal time to pack up a carload of friends, or grab the family and head out to see a double feature for just $20 per carload. The box office opens at 8 p.m., and the first feature starts at 9:30, giving you and your peeps plenty of time to hang out and set up your own outdoor space. Take a look here to see what first-run movies they feature this week. Don’t forget to pack your chairs, blankets, and bug spray!
While the number of drive-ins has plummeted across the country, one sure-fire way to help keep your drive-in open is to frequent the concession stand. It features lots of your favorite snacks and drinks, including the usual popcorn, candy and soda, and additional hot items and frozen treats to help you enjoy the movies that much more. Without concession sales, the drive-in could not exist. Outside food and beverages are restricted, although patrons are allowed to bring bottled water. Any other food and drink brought to the drive-in requires the purchase of a food permit upon admission, which is available for $5.00 per car, per visit, and allows you to bring in your own snacks and drinks to enjoy during the movies.
For you bargain-hunting movie-lovers, on select Friday and Saturday nights, the Midway Twin offers triple feature films. Seriously, who doesn’t like three great movies for the price of one? The Midway Twin Drive-In Theatre is located on State Route 59, ½ mile east of Kent.
Summer is the ideal time to take in a drive-in movie. And, just like summer evenings, drive-in theaters won’t be around forever. The season is brief; make plans to head to the Midway Twin soon. As you sit under the stars, sharing popcorn and making memories with your family and friends, you’ll be glad you did!
