If you’re looking for art and culture, you don’t need to travel too far from home. If you’ve been longing to experience a world-class musical performance, but thought you’d need to reserve tickets and plan a trip downtown, think again. That’s because this fall Hiram College will be featuring musical performances and arts events that are free and open to the public.

If you’re interested in exploring the visual arts, Hiram College has you covered. The latest exhibition at the Gelbke Art Gallery features the work of photographer Jack Kotz. Residing in Santa Fe, NM, his work tends to focus on the concept of ‘place’, portraying the feel of each particular location showcased. Kotz’s latest work has been displayed in the National Museum of American Art, The Mississippi Museum of Art, The Mississippi State Historical Museum and in private collections.

The show, entitled “A Small Retrospective,” will be on display through Oct. 16 in the Art Gallery at the Gelbke Fine Arts Center, 12000 Winrock Road. The Gelbke Art Gallery is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or by appointment.

So, before you make plans to hit the road to experience art and culture, make sure to check out the opportunities at Hiram College. You might be surprised to learn what’s waiting for you in your own backyard.
