Autumn is an ideal time to check out the seasons changing colors at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Why not grab your sweetie and make it a date night by climbing aboard the Cuyahoga Scenic Railroad for a special wine, beer or cider excursion?

The Grape Escape excursion is two hours in length and travels through the CVNP. While on board, you will be introduced to five different wines, and each is served with chef-prepared hors d’oeuvres. If you have special dietary restrictions, you are welcome to bring your own food on board.  You will learn of each wine’s characteristics, including body, aroma, bouquet and finish. Everyone will receive a Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad commemorative glass. You MUST be 21 or older to ride this excursion. ID’s will be checked before you are able to board the train. For more information, click here.

Coach seating is $59 per person; groups are seated with two guests facing two. Deluxe seating is $79 per person, and provides seating in one of CVSR’s deluxe dining cars. All seats are at tables of either two or four guests. The Grape Escape takes place on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. for Halloween fun and on Sunday, Nov. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. for winter wines. For more information, visit here.

If you prefer beer over wine, CVSR has another option. Ales on Rails provides a similar experience as the Grape Escape, but for the beer connoisseur. While on board, you will be introduced to 5 different beers. Each beer is paired with chef-prepared hors d’oeuvres. You will learn to differentiate each beer’s characteristics, including body, aroma, bouquet and finish. Each guest will receive a CVSR Commemorative tasting glass. You MUST be 21 or older to ride this excursion; ID’s will be checked prior to boarding.

Each Ales on Rails trip lasts 2 hours and departs from the Rockside Station on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 7 – 9 p.m. with Oktoberfest beers and on Saturday, Nov. 7 with holiday brews from 2 to 4 p.m. For tickets and information, click here. To see how much fun Ales on Rails can be, click here.

If you’d like to sample cider while relaxing aboard the train, you won’t want to miss the Hard Cider Tasting excursion on Saturday, Oct. 24.  While you ride the rails, you’ll sample five hard ciders: Samuel Smith’s Organic Apple Cider, Original Sin Pear Cider, Woodchuck’s Hopsation Hard Cider, Kentucky Pete’s Cherry Apple Cider, Original Sin Elderberry Cider. You’ll also enjoy catered appetizers paired for each cider. Commemorative glasses are included with your ticket. The train departs the Akron Northside Station at 6:30 p.m. For more information, or to purchase tickets, click here.

Fall is a wonderful season to climb aboard the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad with your sweetie to experience the National Park in a whole new way.
