Fall is here!  Fall is an absolutely gorgeous time of year with the orange and brown colors adorning the trees in the area.  A very popular weekend activity this time of year is to go to an overlook area and observe the beautiful fall colors and take in the wonderful smells associated with fall.

Another very common, but not so popular, fall activity is getting leaves to the curb after they fall off of the trees in your yard.  Worse yet, after they fall off of the trees in your neighbor’s yard and ride the wind into your yard.  Here’s three great ideas for gathering the leaves in your yard for either curbside pick-up if available in your city, or just getting them to the compost pile.

  1. The first method of getting rid of those pesky leaves is quite simple. Just take an old tarp or large piece of plastic and rake the leaves onto the tarp or plastic.  Then bundle them up and drag those leaves to the curb or compost pile.  You can even go slightly more high-tech and use a leaf blower to get them onto the tarp or plastic.
  1. Another slightly more high-tech method of getting rid of those leaves is to use a wet-dry vacuum.  Many of them can be converted to a blower by simply changing the location of the hose attachment or flipping a switch.  Then it’s just a simple matter of blowing the leaves to the desired location or onto the tarp or plastic mentioned above.
  1. Another simple solution for blowing those leaves to their desired location (and far less expensive solution) is to use an old fan and blow them either to where they need to go or blow them onto that tarp or plastic mentioned above.

Bonus idea:  It is Halloween time, right?  Rake or blow the leaves into a central location.  Get a white garbage bag and fill it up with the leaves.  Then take a black marker and draw a face on the bag.  Now you have a ghost!  If you’re really good, find some orange garbage bags and make some pumpkins!  You can even get really creative and use black garbage bags.  Use glow-in-the-dark markers or paint and draw a spooky face for a spooky Halloween yard decoration!

Admittedly, gathering the leaves can be a time consuming and expensive task.  With a little creativity, it can also be a fun job!
