On Sunday, Oct. 4, Portage Park District Foundation and Portage Park District will sponsor a community event at Camp Spelman, a park within the Portage Park District, utilized primarily by Scout groups of Northeast Ohio for campouts. Rain or shine, this event will take place from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at 7646 Ferguson Rd, Franklin Township.
Historically, this park was a privately owned area used by organizations such as the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Eagle Scouts, Kiwanis Clubs, local church groups and Parks & Recreation Organizations. Reservations for day camps and overnight campouts have been a usual occurrence at the site.
On Oct. 4, the Then & Tomorrow Celebration festivities at Camp Spelman will consist of live music, food and refreshments, games, Camp Spelman Memories Display, and a Hike on a newly carved trail around Lake Spelman by Scout Jared Ruehr.
If you choose to attend this event, don’t forget your fishing poles, bait, memories and ideas for the future of Camp Spelman!
We ask the community to please send us your memories from time spent at Camp Spelman.
Please send copies of photos, written memoirs, memorabilia to rlocke@portageparkdistrict.org or Portage Park District 705 Oakwood St. Suite G-4 Ravenna, OH 44266 or bring memories to the event!
