If not – why not go today!

13927515-fresh-beets-harvested-and-ready-for-saleHaymakers Farmers’ Market has dozens of vendors, many that are certified organic growers. They began in 1992 as a public market so the farmers in the area could share their produce with the community. Get rid of the middleman and get direct from the producers. Save money and enjoy quality fresh-from-the-field fruits and veggies! Plus, as you know, it’s always good to support local businesses and this is certainly an enjoyable way to do so. Last week there were an estimated 2000 adults that were enjoying the goods and I’m sure the kids were having a great time as well.

honeyNot only will you find fresh produce, but many other edibles can be purchased as well: herbs, vinegars, honey products from local seller Karen Dodd at her Kountry Dreamer booth under the bridge. Black Dog Acres Farm and Creekside Gardens will be sharing their honey products soon too. With so much of the honey these days coming from China – which is really not honey at all – who wouldn’t you want to stock up on the real thing! Find local teas, cheeses from goats, cows and sheep, maple syrup products….then there’s the handmade lotions and soaps, soooo wonderfully scented and made from natural non-toxic ingredients.

Haymakers Market is open year round which is a real treat since so many are only seasonal. It will move to an inside location in November, but let’s not think about that! You have until October to be in the beautiful outdoors!

Oh – and there’s music! Today, June 29, you’ll be pickin’ your produce to the music of folk singer/songwriter and guitarist Jim Gill from 10 a.m. to noon. All shows are free and family-friendly so be sure to get the kids over to sing along. Maybe stop by the SCRATCH truck before you grab a seat.
