All too often we hear about kids getting into some kind of trouble. I so wish that more media outlets would report all the good that goes on out there in the world. The ratio would far outweigh what we are led to believe and literally change people’s way of thinking and the communities they live in.
Portage News is dedicated to one thing: reporting positive local news. This is one story I just had to republish from the Facebook page of Portage APL.
These kids are amazing! They had a birthday party and chose presents for the animals before themselves! Ben and Maddie from Kent had their 8th birthday party and collected donations for the homeless animals at Portage APL. From food and litter to cleaning products and cash, these kids made our day. As these kids have shown, there are lots of creative ways to help the animals. Remember us at your holiday parties, birthdays, and even your cookouts. Thanks Ben and Maddie for being great examples of kindness and compassion.
We at Portage News applaud Ben and Maddie for their big hearts AND their parents who are teaching them the importance of getting involved and serving in their local community!! Awesome job guys!
Kitties Anyone?
The employees and volunteers at the Portage APL work round the clock to help care for and find homes for their sheltered animals. Right now they are overloaded with kitties! Cute cuddly kitties that need cute kids and adults (yes – adults can be cute, too!) to cuddle with them. Take a look at these and then take a little trip over the Portage APL to see more. One will surely choose you and you will start your summer with a new friend!

We are Winston and Windle. We have been here for months waiting for a new home. We’d like to be adopted together and we are such a great pair, but no one has given us a home yet. We were on Facebook a while ago and it didn’t work so we thought a video might show how adorable we are. Just look! We came from a home with 12 other cats. We are young. Only about 10 months and we are playful, affectionate and friendly. We LOVE to play because we spend a lot of time in a cage. Please come and meet us. We are really great, we promise! And you’ll get twice the love with two of us. See you soon!
