Beautiful fall!

Can you imagine living without four seasons or in an area where there are no trees? Ok – maybe winter could be excluded, or at least reduced to a two or three season, just so we have enough for Christmas. But would we still love spring as much? Probably not.

For now, let’s keep our focus on this incredible season we have just entered. I can’t imagine anyone would want to exclude this one. Most of us would love to see it last a little longer, especially the first half, which is an explosion of color, warmth, cooler nights ideal for sleeping, much less humidity, and perfect for outdoor romps with your kids and dogs.

We are surrounded by some of the most gorgeous deciduous trees in the country, some of us for most of our lives. But how well do you know your trees? If someone handed you a leaf, could you identify what tree is came from? Remember how our teachers tried so hard to get us to learn all those names and shapes? Does this look somewhat familiar:

We won’t discuss our grades on that project…

Well, guess what? Now you have another chance to learn it all again! The Moebius Nature Center in Aurora is giving you a second chance by leading on a journey around their grounds at 929 E. Mennonite Rd. to identify the trees and leaves of autumn. And you won’t be graded!

They are celebrating the best of fall on Saturday, October 11, at 11:30 a.m. with a Fall Leaves Hike and Craft program. Best of all – treats and cider will be served. Great family fun! See the flyer below for details.

In the mean time, here’s a little quiz for those of you tree enthusiasts. How many of these leaves can you identify? Answers are at the bottom.
