In 2003, a project began in Aurora.
- It was on 44 acres
- It was the renovation of a current outbuilding into a functional community center
- It would include a greenhouse and exhibits for children
- It would be fun, educational, and offer events so all could fully enjoy the natural world around us
- AND – the entire enterprise would be privately funded with work done by licensed contractors using environmentally-friendly materials with beautiful landscaping done by the Aurora Garden Club.
In the spring of 2006 the Moebius Nature Center was completed on E. Mennonite Road, just East of Sunny Lake. Though the Center is situated on city property, it receives NO tax dollars to operate. It depends on donations of the people who believe in the mission of the center for funding. Whether it is a few dollars or a few thousand dollars, it all is deeply appreciated and has contributed to the many wonderful opportunities that have been extended to children and adults who share a love for nature and a desire to learn. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, all donations are tax deductible.
This project was conceived in 1998 by a small dedicated group of local people called the Aurora Conservation Council who volunteered their efforts to create a nature center for the community. This small group has since grown but still needs YOUR help to keep the center open and active. Multiple membership options are available to support the programming efforts.
Monthly meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the nature center and are open to the public. Educational programs and events are offered at no cost to the community. Volunteers are crucial to its success and welcomed! Join the fun!
