Let’s face it – pet ownership is NOT cheap! Providing annual checkups, vaccinations, proper housing, food, emergency care, and spay and neuter surgeries are all part of being a ‘pet parent!’ For those who already struggle to make ends meet and are on very limited incomes, caring for the family fur friend’s needs can send the budget over the brink. Too often families in these circumstances are faced with painful choices: give the pet away to a good friend or a shelter, or let the pet’s needs go unmet. Not a pleasant situation for pets or their people!
PetFix to the rescue!
This 501.c.3 non-profit organization wants to help with solving an important issue many low income families face – spaying or neutering services.
PetFix Northeast Ohio is dedicated to ending pet overpopulation in the region by promoting the importance of spay/neuter and making spay/neuter surgeries affordable and accessible to:
- low-income pet owners
- feral cat caregivers
- shelters, rescues, and animal control agencies placing animals for adoption
Here’s the Scoop!
Determine if you qualify for these services, by clicking HERE. If you have a Medicaid Card or can obtain a Letter of Eligibility from your local welfare office, there is a good chance you are eligible.
If your cat or dog is over 8 weeks old and weighs at least 2 pounds, PetFix will fix them! They will also give them a rabies shot, as required, if they have not yet had one. If you are a kitty lover and help in the care of a feral cat colony, PetFix welcomes them as well. That right there says a lot about who is behind this mobile business! Yes – I said Mobile! PetFix comes to the Portage County area!
Both the Portage County Dog Warden and Shelter and the Animal Protective League have partnered with PetFix and schedule times each month to have them park their mobile unit outside of their facility where they spend the day operating on these furry clients who have made appointments. (Well – THEY didn’t make the appointment – their people did!)
Inside the 33’ PetFix mobile clinic, you will see a state-of-the-art surgery center and 24 stainless steel recovery cages. Highly qualified licensed veterinarians and registered veterinary technicians and animal care technicians will perform the surgery and provide plenty of love and attention afterward until your pet is ready to go home. Their website states, “Our well-trained and experienced medical staff has only one concern – the health and safety of the animals brought to the PetFix Clinic. Animals are discharged in the afternoon. Owners receive detailed going-home instructions along with names of local veterinarians they can call in case of a post-operative emergency.”
As I shared in last week’s BOW-BOWs & MEOWs, “…too many [dogs and cats] to count will just be left roaming about trying hard to make it in what they must deem to be a very sad, lonely, and tough place to live –unless someone comes to their rescue!” Though I was referring to the generous rescue efforts of the Portage County Dog Warden and Shelter, it applies here as well. PetFix Northeast Ohio Spay & Neuter Mobile Clinic wants to help eliminate pet overpopulation, and keep your furry friend healthy, so he can remain with your family by offering this necessary service to low income families. They are doing their part by coming to your neighborhood. Do your part by scheduling an appointment at either of these locations today!
