Last Sunday was a record-breaker. Not because it got to be 20 below or anything…but because there was a hot streak going on within the James A. Garfield middle school track team! These fabulous five – Seth Morgan, Kyle Borelli, Lauren Jones, Dalton Michael, and Anthony DeNigris, all had the joy of going to state finals last Sunday and certainly didn’t disappoint anyone.

Lauren returned home as a state champion in the discus throw with a record breaking distance of 114 feet 9 inches. Huge congrats to you, Lauren! She also placed third in shot put.

Anthony DeNigris came in second place in long jump for 7th grade.

The boys pictured here took the third place medal for the 4 x 400 relay with a time of 3:54. This is in addition to the record-breaking win they had earlier this year at Woodbridge along with breaking a school record that had been untouched for 20 years. What an awesome season!

Also worthy of mention is the second 20 year old school record which was broken earlier in the season in the 1600 meter relay by Logan Kissell, Seth Morgan, Dalton Michael, and Kyle Borelli as seen below.

Coaches Craig and Lori Morgan along with field events trainer Bruce Jones are also to be commended for their commitment and encouragement throughout the season.

Portage News salutes these student athletes for their dedication and determination. Your efforts have paid off and been rewarded. May your season next year be just as exciting!
