This past week Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary has welcomed some new horses into the program.

galaxyGalaxie is a beautiful Appaloosa mare who is being returned from a foster home. She is a small appaloosa mare originally rescued from a neglect case in Deerfield. She was adopted out to a family who recently made the hard decision to return her. Happy Trails is looking to find a forever home for this great mare!

She is respectful and courteous and seems to be a quick learner. She is green and needs an experienced handler. Once she has some training, she will be a wonderful addition to any family. She is currently being fostered at Moxie Stables where a few of the girls have been working with her. She has only been ridden a handful of times, however, she now lunges with a saddle on, has been bridled, and has been schooled on ground manners.

The best thing about her is her personality! She calls out to anyone who approaches the field in greeting. If you have the ability, give us a call. She is definitely worth the little bit of training she needs.

Gus and Willie, two horses (geldings) from Guernsey County who were rescued from a situation of neglect for the second time in their life (photos to come).

Primavera – a small, sweet mare who will actually be back at Happy Trails on Monday, November 25. She is being returned from an adoptive home and will now be available for adoption once again. Watch for photos on their website.

Many other horses are available for adoption as well. Here are a couple more very handsome fellows.

Ahote is a black and white paint horse rescued in cooperation with the Greater Akron Humane Society.  Ahote was rescued with an elderly mare horse we named Paix, who is no longer with us. Both were rescued from a very neglectful situation. Beyond the caked manure, horrific hooves and unbearably thin stature of Ahote a beautiful paint horse was discovered! Read our Paint Horse Rescue Article for the complete story.

Austin has come back into our adoption program and needs to find his forever home. He is a beautiful horse and is extremely playful – LOVES jolly balls, other horses, and to play halter tag. He puts muck buckets over his head and runs around with them. Austin is quite the comedian. This guy can do light riding, however, he may come up lame occasionally and simply can’t be ridden on those days. He has Ringbone in all four of his hocks and has to be kept in shoes for support of his legs.

If you are willing to give a little extra care for his issues he may just surprise you and become the best horse you have ever owned. He sure is a looker as you pull into the sanctuary and gaze on him in the field!!

Not everyone has the ability to own a horse. Happy Trails has a Sponsorship program that allows you to be involved and help care for these precious animals. For more information, click HERE.
