How much do you love the Portage park system? Would it affect you at all if they one day were just not there? Are they worth a buck fifty each month to not only maintain but also to expand? And where would that precious land go if it’s not protected and kept open for outdoor recreation and education? A housing developer? Would it be transformed into a business district? How sad that would be!
What kind of return will you receive from $1.50 per month?
Levy funds will be used to:
- Maintain and repair parks and trails to ensure safe, enjoyable experiences for everyone, all year long
- Improve and open to the public over 800 acres of land already owned by the Park District, but not yet publicly accessible
- Conserve critical natural areas for wildlife habitat and water quality protection
- Plan and create new parks and trails in partnership with communities across Portage County
- Provide programs for healthy recreation and nature education, for all ages
As a lover of all things outdoors, knowing there are places just down the road a piece that I can count on to always be there when I need to take a ‘stress’ break to run or I want to just get out and think about an idea I’m getting is something I take for granted. I love going out in early spring and watch the return of life as it emerges in so many forms – it gives me hope and encouragement and I appreciate life all over again. It excites me anew as I know I have another season of biking and hiking and discovery awaiting me. It fills my right brain with ideas for my own landscaping and what I need to attract the kinds of birds and butterflies and wildlife I want in my own garden. I adore being out on the trail in the beauty of fall, especially when those warm Indian summer breezes blow through the trees. A brilliant blue sky as background to the oranges, reds, and purples, along with the rich scents of the earth and fallen apples, is equated with Thanksgiving and sure makes it easy to look upward and thank God for the amazing blessing of the creation.
If I woke up one day and it was all gone – it would leave a huge void in my life! Investing $1.50 per month to enrich my own personal quality of life is definitely worth it!

One of those announcements is an upcoming meeting!
