If I only had today with you
Because it was our last;
I would summon memories up from the past.
One cherished memory each box would contain;
Each box crafted with colors of rain.
I’d write on the outside what I think you see,
Then show you the inside; what they mean to me.
If I only had today with you
Because you would be gone;
I would open your eyes, first light of dawn.
We’d climb our favorite apple tree
With book in hand and sit and read.
I’d circle words, some precious, some frivoly
And paste them with pictures that say ‘you-n-me.’
If I only had today with you
Because you couldn’t stay;
We would hike up Steep Hill toward midday.
You’d hear again Sir Pileated’s call,
And then remark, “Most Stately of all!”
We’d find fat twigs from up on the ridge,
And play Pooh Sticks once more at the old concrete bridge.
If I only had today with you
Because that Time arrived;
We would stroll the eve with Autumn, our guide.
“Silence is Golden. It joins soul to soul,”
The warmth of Her presence speaks truth and consoles.
Each box would be opened, our memories entwine;
“I’m glad I had today with you. Is tomorrow your place or mine?”

Valentine’s Day is about loving people – those people we hold the dearest. I hope you’ll take time today and think about loving your special people as if it were your last day with them, and then adjust whatever you need to and make that happen as often as possible. Not just once a year. Because one day that Time will arrive….
Wishing you the Happiest Valentine’s Day ever!
And lots more throughout the year!
