Here is a recipe that will make your Memorial Day dessert selection the envy of all. Please note you do not have to use just cherry pie filling. Get creative and use blueberry and cherry on the same ring, alternate each filling flavor as you go around the ring, making a lovely red, white, and blue pattern.
I have found that any fruit pie filling can be used; however I’m partial to the cherry and peach fillings. You can also make and bake this ring the day before your gathering, just be sure not to add the glaze until the day you serve. On the day of your party, heat the ring in a warm oven set at 300 degrees for about 10 minutes, (may be longer or shorter depending on your oven) remove, cool, and then add your glaze.
I love using my stone pizza pan for this recipe, it seems to work the best, however any large pizza pan will do fine. I will be making two of these rings for a special Memorial Day event we will be attending this year, and I guarantee the pans are all that will be returning home with me. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
- 2 – 8 oz. packages of refrigerated crescent rolls
- 1 – 8 oz. package of cream cheese
- ¼ cup of powdered sugar
- 1 egg
- ½ teaspoon of vanilla
- 21 oz. can of Cherry pie filling
Glaze Ingredients:
- ½ cup of powdered sugar
- 2 – 3 teaspoons of milk (start with 2 and gradually add more)
Directions:
Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees.
Unroll your crescent roll packages and arrange all but 4 of the triangles in a circle with points aimed towards the center of your pan, keep the wide outside edges touching. (Your points will not touch in the center).
Lightly flour all of the seams and roll out using your rolling pin; you should be making a neat 14” circle with a 3” hole in the center.
Combine the cream cheese, powdered sugar, egg and vanilla; spread this mixture evenly over the dough.
Top with the cherry pie filling. (Or any fruit pie filling)
Directions for Remaining 4 Triangles:
Cut each of the remaining 4 triangles into thirds. To make cutting easier, start with the wide end, cutting down to the point.
Arrange these 12 smaller triangle pieces evenly over the filling mixture, in a spoke like pattern, pressing the ends together at both the center and outside edges.
Bake for 25-30 minutes until a lovely golden brown.
Cool slightly, and then drizzle with the glaze mixture, (ingredients for glaze mixture above)
