The Hiram Police Department recently hosted a Safe Driving for Mature Operators Course in conjunction with AAA Safety Specialist Lori Cook. The course was well attended and participants were presented with a plethora of safe driving skills and techniques. The participants in the course were instructed on the proper method of mirror adjustments to eliminate blind spots, proper seat and seat belt adjustments, and sight/distance perceptions.
Part of the course was a driving skills session where the participants of the course had an opportunity to use the skills they learned in the class. Many of the course participants were intrigued and amazed that after all of the years of driving, they realized that they were performing errors that had potential for a crash.
The complete course is eight hours that was broken down over two days. Thank you to Hiram Corner Store and Café for providing lunch to the class participants. Hiram Police Department strongly feels that education is the key to safety and plans to hold many more safety related courses in the future.
The Hiram Police Department is very involved in the community and hosts numerous events, both educational and fun, keeping Hiram an enjoyable, safe, family-centered community for its residents.
