Christopher Wawrin was a regular blood donor who understood the importance of giving so others could live. Christopher was involved in a tragic confrontation that left him with a serious injury. For 10 days, he fought to live, receiving over 100 units of blood. Sadly, Christopher lost his fight on December 1, 1997. Christopher’s family is hosting a drive to honor his memory and help others fighting to survive. They invite everyone in Portage County to come and give the gift of life to ensure others receive the lifesaving treatment they need!

Students: You too can give blood and help save lives!

I can do both by Paeyton

“I have always wanted to give blood, even though I’m terribly afraid of needles, because I know that it can make a difference. I signed up before I knew that I had a soccer tournament that weekend. Everyone including my coach told me I shouldn’t do it because I would be weak for the games. The class before I was supposed to go give blood we had free time and I really thought about what I should do. I felt like God really wanted me to help and trust in him that everything would be okay. I gave blood, and those three games I played were in the top 5 best games I’ve played as goalie.”

Donors must be at least 17-years-old to donate. However, 16-year-olds are allowed to donate blood with parental consent in Ohio.

If you are 16 years old and wish to donate, then you will need to bring this signed consent form to his or her blood donation appointment. A signed consent form is required each time a student plans to donate, so be sure to bring it with you!

Donating is easy!

  1. You will be signed in and given some information to read. Bring proper ID.
  2. A private and confidential interview is held about your health history and places you have traveled and a mini physical is performed.
  3. The actual donation takes about 8-10 minutes, during which you will be seated comfortably while a pint of blood is drawn.
  4. Eat a snack and drink some fluids afterward then you may leave after 10-15 minutes and continue with your normal daily activities.

Super simple! Complete details can be found HERE.

Please take an hour or less of your day to donate this Saturday, October 18, at the Ravenna Elks Lodge, 776 N. Freedom Street.  This blood drive has helped over 1500 local hospital patients over the past 16 years! That hour will make the difference for someone whose life is jeopardized. Give the gift of life!
