Candance Academy is doing far more than just producing top notch dancers! Students who come for any length of time learn about life. They change and become confident and goal oriented and experience the joy of personal accomplishments.
Eve, who is 14, has been dancing for five years with the Academy and testifies in this interview just how much Candance has shaped her life.
“I began dancing five years ago because I was involved in theatre and knew one of the instructors at Candance Academy. I wanted to start taking classes at first because I thought it would help me in theatre,” she shares.
Eve is currently taking Jazz, Ballet, Pointe, Acro, Tap, Lyrical, Flexibility, Improv and Ballet Strength. “I am competing in Jazz, Tap, Lyrical and Acro and I am at the studio 14 hours a week. My favorite class is my private because I have two amazing solos and I love being able to get direct corrections.” How about that for a great attitude!
“My favorite thing about being on the competition team is that I get to make amazing, long-lasting friendships. I also love being able to perform on stage,” she says. “One moment that stands out is when I had the opportunity to go to New York with my team. I got to meet so many great choreographers and I learned a lot!”
Opportunities to travel, be exposed to others who have already made careers for themselves as a result of their own dance history, and learning what it takes to get there, are some of the extra benefits competitive dancers from Candance can look forward to on these trips.
“Being a dancer has made me confident in myself and very industrious. When I started to take dance more seriously, I started working a lot harder because I knew that if I didn’t try my best in class, then I wouldn’t improve. Also, having the opportunity to go out on stage has allowed me to gain more self confidence.”
We have all heard the statement: If we fail to plan, we plan to fail. Not so for Eve. She has learned the value of thinking ahead and sets goals in order to achieve the desired results.
“This year I am striving to make it in the top five for overalls at every competition and I hope I can get my round off back tuck solid.”
What about the role of dance in her future?
“I believe that dance will always be a part of my life. My dream future would be to become an ultrasound tech and have own my own dance studio or become a choreographer.”
We wish you the best success at your dreams, Eve! And it looks like you are well on your way!
